ABOUT
I have over 38 years of experience designing, writing, and editing medical/science education and training programs for health care professionals, the pharmaceutical industry, and academia. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in biology from Boston University and realizing that my plans to become the next Jacque Cousteau were unrealistic, I took a job as a textbook science editor for Prentice-Hall Books in New Jersey. After working there and for several other science and medical publishers in New York and Boston over the next 10 years, culminating with my senior science editor position at Houghton Mifflin Company in Boston, I shifted careers and accepted a job as a medical writer and instructional designer at Competence Assurance Systems (now Whole Systems), a company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that developed medical training programs for sales representatives in the pharmaceutical industry.
At Whole Systems, I developed my creative medical writing and instructional design skills on a wide range of subjects using a variety of media, including print, audio, video, multimedia (CD-ROMs and web-based delivery), and workshops. During this time, I also took advantage of the many universities in the area by enrolling in graduate-level courses in instructional design, computer-based training, molecular and cell biology, immunology, and environmental sciences.
After 8 years at Whole Systems, I started my own operation and have had a successful business for close to 30 years. Although I continued to design and write training programs for the pharmaceutical industry during this time, I also branched out into other areas of medical and science education, including writing scripts and storyboards for continuing medical education videos for health care professionals and interactive CD-ROMs for college students in the biological sciences. Over the years I have developed the skills not only to present and explain complex medical and science topics to a wide variety of audiences, but also the ability to integrate creative designs and writing styles to provide an educational experience that is both effective and enjoyable.
